Stuart’s dad is visiting from Australia this week which has given us the perfect excuse to down tools and play tourist.
Yesterday we FINALLY made the coastal hike across to Anse Major and WOW did it not disappoint. Swimsuited and booted, we started the hike at 9:30am, stocked with supplies of water, breadfruit chips, towels, snorkelling gear and sunscreen.
The “Anse Major Trail” starts just up the hill past La Scala Restaurant at the end of the Bel Ombre road (close to Beau Vallon). There is very limited parking at the trail start so we recommend parking along the road between Bel Ombre marina and La Scala Restaurant.
The trail is the first we have done here in the Seychelles and we think was a perfect starter as it was a relatively easy 50 minute walk for us all. We recommend that you wear decent footwear for the hike as the trail is undulating and rocky but be sure pack your flip-flops for when you eventually hit the beach.
From the first trail sign you will walk up along a bitumen road that passed a few private houses and hotels, then you will see another sign pointing left up some red-earth steps to the official start of the Anse Major trail.
The views along the trail are breath-taking with glistening crytal blue waters, lush tropical green mountains and sloping granite boulders worn with time – so you will definitely want to stop en-route to take a few snaps – there is also a great look out near the end of the trail overlooking Anse Major before you start your final descent to the beach.
Whilst you can walk back along the track if you wish, you may want to settle for a more relaxed trip back to Bel Ombre via the local yellow water taxi “Happiness” and its friendly skipper (approximately 150 SCR per person one way). Happiness will usually make a few passes past the bay offering weary tourist a cruise back home, or you can call him directly on 2540454 for a booking.
Anyway enough talking from me, here are a few photos from of our trek to Anse Major and the boat cruise back to Bel Ombre Marina…
…as you can see the trail and beach are just magical and a must-do for anyone visiting the Seychelles 🙂
